This is a medium-sized loaf with a fine crumb and swirl of dark chocolate beautifully marbled throughout. Make sure to use a light crust setting, if possible, so the chocolate chips on the outside surface of the loaf don’t burn.

Source: www.allrecipes.com This can easily be made in my bread machine but I like to braid challah. To avoid manually kneading the dough and waiting for it to rise, simply put all ingredients in your bread machine per manufacturer’s instructions and set it for the dough cycle. Once complete (mine takes 1.5 hours), remove and separate into 3 equal parts, roll into 3 12″ long rope like pieces (slightly thinner at the ends and thicker in the middle) that can be braided (and not fall apart, so not too thin). Once braided, make sure the ends are sealed together well to ensure braiding stays intact. Brush with egg wash (one whole egg mixed with 2 tablespoons milk or water). Bake on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30-45 minutes, till it’s golden brown. Cover with foil if the bread starts to brown too soon. The bread should sound hollow when tapped (when fully baked). Ingredients
Directions (if making in bread machine)
You can use this bread to accompany meals, for sandwiches, with preserves and butter or it makes wonderful french toast. It’s versatile and delicious, no matter how you eat it. Source: www.allrecipes.com |
